Programs implemented in the field of veterinary medicine and animal husbandry in 2021 and their results
In order to ensure a stable epidemiological situation, as well as to prevent infectious diseases common to animals and humans in the Republic of Artsakh, mandatory anti-epidemic preventive measures were carried out in relation to 14 diseases within the framework of the state order (brucellosis, tuberculosis, anthrax, foot-and-mouth disease, emkar, pasteurelosis hake, porcine pasteurelosis, PPP, bradzot, pig fever, false plague H, rabies, uterine pneumoenteritis, jaundice).
In total, in 2021, as part of anti-epidemic measures carried out by veterinarians, about 500,000 preventive syringes and 46,250 heads of serum blood samples of cattle and small cattle were carried out in order to detect brucellosis. In particular, 20,923 blood samples of cattle were subjected to serological studies, of which 97 samples were positive and 25,327 samples of small cattle, of which 229 were positive.
At the beginning of the year, cases of rabies, brucellosis, epidemics of flower diseases were recorded on the territory of the republic. As a result of measures to prevent their spread, the epidemiological situation has stabilized in a short time.
In the field of animal husbandry, several key programs have been implemented aimed at restoring post-war losses, ensuring the growth of livestock, modernizing animal husbandry methods, and improving pastures.
Within the framework of the program “Artificial insemination of farm animals”, the purpose of which is to improve the local herd and the organization of pig breeding, the artificial insemination of 310 cattle and 100 pigs was carried out.
In order to improve the breeding and productive qualities of local cattle breeding, 152 heads of breeding animals, including 10 heads of breeding bulls, 16 heads of breeding cows, 94 heads of breeding calves, 6 heads of breeding heifers and 26 heads of breeding new borne, were provided to farmers from breeding farms of Artsakh (“Breeding Station” CJSC and “ARM-Agro” LLC) on preferential terms in 2021.
Within the framework of the “Program of partial subsidization of the cost of breeding animals imported to the Republic of Artsakh”, 3 contracts were signed. As a result, in 2021, 120 heads of pregnant breeding heifers of the Flagvi breed were imported from Austria to Artsakh.
As a result of these measures, as of December 1, a slight increase in the number of cattle was registered in the republic: including herds – 3.4%, cows – 10.3%, pigs – 25.6%, singles – 11.7%, birds – 103%, bee colonies – 29%.
Within the framework of the “Program for the regulation of livestock-pasture management”, work was carried out in 11 communities of Martuni and Martakert regions. In general, 109 hectares of pastures were cleared, 6030 meters of inter-field roads were landscaped, 6065 meters of roads were fenced with barbed wire, and 42 water intakes were built.
Within the framework of the “Program of partial subsidies for the construction of slaughterhouses, livestock products, factories for processing raw materials, construction of livestock buildings, reconstruction and overhaul”, 21 applications for the construction, reconstruction and overhaul of 21 livestock buildings were processed, of which 7 were for repair, 2 for reconstruction were construction site.
Within the framework of the” Program for the Promotion of Livestock Development”, 31 applications were received, mainly aimed at electrification of livestock buildings, then for water supply. Watering of 10 livestock buildings and electrification of 21 livestock buildings, including 6 on solar energy, have been carried out.
Much attention was paid to the process of training and retraining of veterinarians. In 2021, Artsakh veterinarians took part in the trainings “Sustainable maintenance of private veterinary services in the Republic of Artsakh” by the National Association of Veterinarians, as well as in the short-term course “Sour milk and cheese” in the Balahovit experimental dairy workshop.
